SBCC fires student after reckless driving of campus shuttle

Oct. 1 – N.D.

A student’s stolen wallet was found in a trashcan near the bridge on West Campus. She said that her wallet was taken from the bottom floor of the Luria Library at noon on Wednesday. Her debit card was taken and charged with several hundred dollars before it could be cancelled. The information has been turned over to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Oct. 1 – 5:42 p.m.

A male student was removed from the Drama and Music Building on East Campus for being intoxicated. Security was contacted after he got into an argument with some students and staff. They escorted the student off of campus and told him not to return for the remainder of the day. The police were called when the student returned 15 minutes later, and he was escorted off campus again. He was later referred to the dean of student discipline.

Oct 2 – 11:45 a.m.

A female student’s iPhone was stolen from the Luria Library between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sept. 29. She left the seating area to get a drink, and when she returned the phone was gone. The information was forwarded to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Oct. 5 – 3:50 p.m.

A mirror in the men’s restroom of the Student Services Building was smashed between 3:20 p.m. and 3:40 p.m. An employee heard a loud crash from the bathroom, but by the time someone could look the person was gone. The bathroom was blocked off, and the custodians were alerted.

Oct 5 – 7:30 p.m.

The driver’s side window of a student’s truck was broken sometime between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in Lot 2-C by La Playa Stadium. When security contacted the owner he verified that nothing was stolen from the car, and said he had no idea who would have a reason to break his car window. He was advised to make a police report.

Oct. 5 – 8:30 a.m.

A City College van parked on campus was damaged between 7 p.m. on Oct. 4 and 7:30 a.m. on Oct 5. The damage to the van was minor. Another vehicle seemed to have backed into the van causing a dent to the bumper. There are no suspects in the hit and run.

Oct. 6 – 1:40 p.m.

A student’s laptop was stolen from a table at 7 p.m. near the Bookstore and JSB Café. He stepped about four feet away from his laptop to take a phone call and when he returned his laptop was gone. The student said he noticed a male, who was lying on a bench nearby, who was gone along with his laptop. The suspect was a 6 feet white male with a beard, around 35 to 40 years old and a possible transient. The student was advised to make a report with the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Oct. 6 – 6:56 a.m.

There was harassment of several students and staff that occurred between 8:04 p.m. on Oct. 5 and Oct. 6 5:48 p.m. This matter is under police investigation, and there are no more details as of this moment. The Channels is currently attempting to reach the Santa Barbara Police Department for more information.

Oct. 6 – 9:50 a.m.

A student driver was fired for driving a City College vehicle recklessly on Oct. 5. The student who was employed by the college was exceeding the speed limit and cut off a driver on Shoreline Drive. The student was driving a campus shuttle, but there were no passengers in the vehicle at the time.
