Fallen tree on City College Main Campus prompts power outage

A large tree falls across City College’s Main Campus, barricading the motorcycle and student parking off of Loma Alta drive on March 21 in Santa Barbara, Calif. No visible vehicles are damaged.

Atmospheric rains and wind caused a tree to fall on March 21 on Loma Alta Dr., triggering a power outage on the Mesa and City College’s campus around 6:48 a.m.

The falling tree took a power line along with it resulting in a blown transformer, according to Interim Superintendent-President Kindred Murrillo in an email sent out. Power at City College’s Main campus was lost, and classes were subsequently moved online to avoid unsafe conditions for students.

Schott and Wake campuses’ classes have also been moved online, but the Orfalea Early Learning Center will remain open. The library and cafeteria will also be closed.

Students, faculty, and administrators have been advised to look out for updates on the campus’ status for March 22.
