City College staff member Robert Mendoza was arrested on Dec. 12, 2019, for allegedly embezzling over $50,000 from the college by selling printer supplies.

According to a Santa Barbara Police Department report, Mendoza had allegedly been ordering excess supplies for the Duplicating department and selling them on his personal eBay since 2015.

The Channels attempted to contact Mendoza several times but he was unavailable to comment before publication.

“The college is taking appropriate action,” said Executive Director of Public Affairs and Communication Luz Reyes-Martin.

Mendoza worked as a technician for the department and has been an employee of the college for 30 years.

Reyes-Martin refused to comment on whether Mendoza is still employed by the college.

Update: Reyes-Martin confirmed that Mendoza is still an employee of the college. This story was updated at 12:10 p.m. on Feb. 1, 2020.
