Sept. 26 – 5:15 p.m.

A student contacted Campus Security about attempted bike theft at the bike rack by Cliff Drive and Rancheria St. After receiving the call, security reviewed footage from surveillance cameras that had caught the suspect on video. The video showed a male unsuccessfully attempting to steal three to four bikes. He left the scene with a stolen bike seat from a bike worth $75. Security Director Erik Fricke recommends that students use U-Locks when parked on campus because they’re the best way to secure a bike.

Sept. 30 – 12:20 p.m.

A male student was driving through the parking lot by Pershing Park when another student backed out into the driving lane and hit the victim’s gray Kia SUV. The vehicle was damaged on the passenger side, while the suspect’s truck, a white Toyota, did not receive any damage. The two students exchanged phone numbers. 

Oct. 2 – 1:05 p.m.

A City College student parked his Honda motorcycle in Parking Lot 5-3 at 9:30 a.m. and when he returned three hours later, he found it damaged on the left side. The clutch lever was broken off and the fender was cracked. The victim discovered a note on his motorcycle with a phone number, but the phone number was out of service. 

Oct. 3 – 2 p.m.

Campus Security received a report from a male student who was being harassed by an individual. The harassment began on Oct. 1 when the victim found the hood and windshield of his car covered in yogurt while parked in Parking Lot 3. Two days later, someone had poured a caramel frappuccino from front to back of the car. The student believes the suspect to be an individual who has been snapchatting him with “smack-talking” messages. The most recent threat the victim received was when the suspect told him he would come on campus with his “homies.”

Oct. 5 – 10:45 a.m.

Two female students were working out at La Playa Stadium when they found that their iPhone and car keys were missing. They used tracking software to track the location of the phone and found it with a male student by Friendship Plaza on East Campus. The suspect claimed he was planning to turn the items in to security, but security informed the student to leave campus and referred him to the dean. 

Oct. 8 – 9:30 p.m.

A student reported that his $700 Gary Fisher mountain bike was stolen from the bike rack between Luria Library and the Interdisciplinary Center. He was advised to file a report with the Santa Barbara Police Department.
Oct. 9 – 5:40 p.m.

A female student was harassed by an older male student while studying in the library. Both students were sitting downstairs in the quiet zone and the male was angry that the female was speaking to a friend. He confronted her in an aggressive manner, telling her she couldn’t stay. The female felt threatened by his behavior and reported it to the library staff. Campus security made contact with the male student and he was escorted from the library and referred to the dean.
