Reports from tutors, multiple thefts in past weeks’ crimes

Oct. 16 – 4:24 p.m.

A student reported that her tires were slashed in parking lot 2C. She did not notice the damage until she was driving on the freeway. Security took a look at the tires and it was not apparent they were slashed, but they had determined it looked more like it was normal wear and tear of the tires.

Oct. 17 – 6:30 a.m.

Security found graffiti spray painted on the stone siding of the West Campus Classrooms Building. There was also graffiti found around The Mesa neighborhoods. Custodian staff pressure washed and used remover on the stone to get rid of the paint before classes began at 8 a.m.

Oct. 17 – 12:48  p.m.

Security was called by a staff member in the Student Services building after a student was acting in a threatening manner towards the staff. He was upset he could not get a train ride, but he was not signed up with the program. The staff in the office tried to help him get signed up so he could use those services, but he began to yell foul language at them. Staff feared he would get violent, but effectively de-escalated the situation and the student left before security came. The student has been referred to the Dean of Student Discipline.

Oct. 17 – 2:15 p.m.

A City College student reported that their motorcycle helmet and racing gloves were stolen in parking lot 2A. The helmet was valued at $400 and the gloves were valued at $50.

Oct. 17 – 8:00 p.m.

A City College student tutor reported another student after a tutoring session where the student used threatening language about his class teacher. The comments were enough of a concern that he has been suspended from campus and a police report has been filed. This is part of an ongoing investigation with City College Security.

Oct. 18 – 10:10 a.m.

A student reported their motorcycle vest was stolen on their bike in parking lot 5-2. The motorvest was valued at $230.

Oct. 18 – 10:30 a.m.

A student reported that their helmet was stolen from their motorcycle the day before, Oct. 17th. They face guard was broken to get the helmet off of the bike. The suspect attempted to burn through the wire and cable that was wrapped around it. There was no value listed for the helmet.

Oct. 19 – 12:13 p.m.

A City College student tutor reported another student because they texted the tutor about wanting to harm their roomates. A police report and contact was made with the student and it was determined it was not a serious threat.

Oct. 20 9:30 p.m.

During a City College football game at La Playa Stadium, personal items that were stored in Physical Education Room 114 were stolen from lockers. Among the stolen items were cell phones and credit cards from the backpacks stored in the lockers. One girl tracked her iPhone via Find my iPhone and was able to retrieve it. The person who had the phone claimed they had gotten it from somewhere else.

Oct. 22 2:50 p.m.

A City College student reported their red Marc Jacobs wallet containing her debit and credit cards was stolen. She believes it was taken from her backpack between one of her three classes and found her backpack half zipped so she is not sure if it fell out or was taken from her.

Oct. 22 – 6:50 p.m.

A student was sitting in their car in parking lot 4C when a silver Cadillac hit their left rear fender. Both car owners exchanged information.

Oct. 23 – 8:30 p.m.

A visiting soccer coach plugged his phone into an outlet by the fence of La Playa Stadium. After the game he discovered it was gone. He also had his credit cards in his phone case.

Oct. 23 – 9:00 p.m.

There was a motor vehicle accident on the corner of Shoreline and Loma Alta. One of the drivers did go to the hospital. Neither of the drivers were City College students.

Oct. 24 – 12:30 p.m.

Security immobilized a vehicle for misusing a handicapped placard.

Oct. 25 8:40 a.m.

A City College staff member reported that their lunchbox was stolen on Oct. 19th. The staff member left their bike and lunch box on the first floor of the West Campus Classrooms Building, both unsecure, from 1:40 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. When the staff member returned their bike was still there but the lunch box was gone.

Oct. 26 – 12:30 p.m.

A female student reported that another student was sexually harassing and stalking her in class and around campus. She was advised to make a police report, which she did. The male suspect has been suspended. Title IX investigators are investigating these allegations and the report with City College is still ongoing.
