Jan. 6 12:05 a.m.  

The parking lot near the Physical Education Building was vandalized when several trash cans were thrown throughout the surrounding areas. The incident occurred sometime between 11 p.m. Jan. 5 and 12:05 a.m. Jan. 6.

Jan. 7 N.D.

A battery occurred off-campus during winter break. There were two separate incidents during the fall semester where a male student was assaulted by a male suspect who was not a student. The victim was hospitalized with wounds to his face and a broken collar bone. The Santa Barbara Police Department is currently involved.

Jan. 11 2:15 a.m.

A suspect broke into the batting cage at the softball field, busting open the chain link handles and cutting the fence. Among the stolen items were 100 carabiners. The estimated cost of repair is $1,000.

Jan. 13 4:10 p.m.

A student slapped a security officer’s phone out of his hand after being stopped for skateboarding on campus, which is against school policy. The officer stopped the student in front of the MacDougall Administration Building and the student refused to show identification. When the officer attempted to take a photograph of the student. 

Jan. 19 8:30 a.m.

A student received a citation for parking in a handicapped spot in the 1A near the Student Services Building on East Campus. Upon receiving the ticket the student became upset and started yelling vulgar words and disrupting faculty. The man then drove his vehicle out of the parking lot in a reckless manner and put surrounding pedestrians in danger.

Jan. 20 10:01 a.m.

Staff observed a student driving dangerously fast in a silver Jeep in Lot 2C near La Playa Stadium, causing concern in pedestrians. The license plate was identified and the suspect met with a peace officer to discuss the incident.

Jan. 21 7:15 p.m.

A suspect stole a bike between 12:15 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. from the first floor of the Interdisciplinary Center on West Campus. The chrome BMX bike, valued at $700, was unlocked, unattended and leaning against the wall in the tutor room.

Jan. 25 4:35 p.m.

A MacBook Air laptop was stolen from a cubicle in the top floor of the Luria Library. The victim left her cubicle for a half hour and asked a friend to watch her belongings. Although the friend noticed no suspicious behavior, when the student came back her laptop was gone. The laptop is valued at $1,200.

Jan. 26 4:20 p.m.

A student was being disruptive in the third floor of the Humanities Building and the situation escalated to a non-violent confrontation with a professor. After being disrespectful and aggressive, the student was asked to leave. The student has since then dropped the class and is on Dean’s hold.

Jan. 26 9:30 a.m.

A hit and run occurred between 7:50 a.m. and 9:20 a.m. in lot 2C near La Playa Stadium. The victim noticed a volleyball sized dent in the rear passenger bumper. No information was left and the financial damage is unknown.

Jan. 27 2:50 p.m.

A Samsung Galaxy 5 was stolen from the women’s restroom on the first floor of the Campus Center. The student was gone for five minutes and when she returned, the phone was missing. It is valued at $750.
