City College guard Mhiah Vickers was named WSC North Player of the Week for her performance in the Bash by the Beach tournament.
Vickers, a 5-11 freshman guard from Westlake High School, scored 43 points, grabbed 20 rebounds and had 9 steals in two tournament games last weekend.
“We always like to say [Vickers] would not be WSC Player of the week without her teammates,” head coach Sandrine Krul said. “When she got the award she went up and told her teammates, ‘I really want to thank you for getting me the ball.’ Shes a classy lady.”
In an 83-63 Championship win against LA Southwest, Vickers posted her first double-double scoring 23 points, grabbing 11 boards and stealing 7.
“She’s very athletic and what we like to call a game changer,” Krul said. “She doesn’t try to do too much; she knows our offense goes around to all the players. That’s what makes her special; with her athletic caliber she’s one of the most unselfish players.”
The Vaqueros are hosting the 8-team MTXE tournament this weekend. In the Vaqueros 66- 20 victory over San Diego Mesa, Vickers played just 19 minutes, scored 7 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and had two assists and a pair of steals. City College faces Riverside tonight at 7 p.m.
