Dog’s owner barks at SBCC security

Last Tuesday at 11:09 a.m., a female student reported suspicious behavior on the second-floor of the Luria Library.

She said that she had been studying when a girl sitting nearby opened a small red canister filled with an unknown substance and showed it to her.

According to the report, the student assumed it was filled with drugs and tried to ignore her.

A few moments later, she noticed the girl had then positioned her cell phone on a desk with the camera aimed at her.

When security arrived, the suspect was gone.

 

Jan. 31                             

At 5:16 p.m., security was called to the Learning Resource Center for disruptive behavior.

Employees told officers that a male student was asking for a lot of help, but wouldn’t follow the staff’s directions. 

The officer approached the student, whom he described in the report as unresponsive.

The student was escorted from the building and referred to the Dean of Discipline.

 

Jan. 31                            

Security responded to a noontime call that sent them to the bridge to deal with a student who was apparently smoking and exhaling into the faces of passing students.

Officers reported seeing the student smoking and asked him to put it out.

The student ignored them while slowly walking away, and at one point blew smoke into an officer’s face.

The officers followed the student to his car and watched him drive away.

 

Feb. 1                         

A person called security at 9:30 a.m. and said there was a woman being irate and verbally attacking someone over a parking spot in Lot 3.

Officers responded and saw a woman yelling while throwing water on the victim. She was referred to the Dean of Discipline.

 

Feb. 2                            

While on patrol, security officers saw a student smoking marijuana on the West Campus bluff at 11:09 a.m.

Security confiscated the student’s pipe referred him for discipline.

Eric Frike, head of security said there have been numerous complaints about students smoking pot around campus.

According to the reports, four students were caught, two pipes confiscated, and an abandoned apple found in the men’s locker room that had been hollowed out and used to smoke the wacky tobacky.

 

Feb. 3                              

At 1:15 p.m., security approached a man at the West Campus smoking bench because his dog wasn’t on a leash. 

When security asked him to put the leash on the man started to verbally abuse the officer.

Then a student standing there joined in and started yelling vulgarities at the officer, too.

The man with the dog eventually complied, put the dog on the leash, and walked off campus.

But the student stayed and kept insulting the officers.

Security said he eventually walked away from the smoking bench with a lit cigarette and refused repeated orders to put it out, while remaining loud and verbally abusive.

He too is being referred to the Dean of Discipline.
