City College women’s volleyball team is on a tear, sweeping L.A. Mission College 3-0 Wednesday night at the Sports Pavilion to bring its winning streak to 12 games.

Jenna Anderson was a monster on Halloween night, collecting 12 kills, eight digs and hit .409 to lead the Vaqueros (14-6, 8-0 WSC North) over the Eagles 25-17, 25-19, 25-8. The No. 11 ranked Vaqueros started the season off 2-6 but hasn’t lost in nearly 6 weeks.

“What makes me feel great that the team is playing well and it has allowed us to be successful through these 12 games,” head coach Ed Gover said.

Sophomore middle-hitter Bianca Castro added 10 kills, tallied three blocks and hit .600 on sophomore-night. The Vaqueros are 6-1 at home this season and have won 37 of their last 41 games at home.

It will be a nice accomplishment and something we will always remember,” Gover said. “This streak is an outcome of hard work. So if it happens we are going to enjoy the moment but we know that we have a lot more work to get done.”

When asked if the teams early losses to top teams were the reasons for such strong play down the stretch, Gover replied that he learned a lot about his team from the losses and was able to make better decisions as a coach.

“It’s a combination of us learning their talents and us coaches putting their talent into place,” he said. “We ended up losing those matches but the goal was to get the right personnel in the right position and now we have that.”

City College is in first place in the WSC North with just two road games left before the Southern California Regional tournament. The Vaqueros look to set the record for win streak at 13 when they travel to Santa Maria to face Hancock 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7.
