Sandy Grimaldo had Cuesta College’s number Thursday night, scoring two first half goals leading the Vaqueros to a 4-1victory at La Playa Stadium.

The Vaqueros (5-2-2) started their WSC North Title defense by dominating Cuesta (4-3-2) 23-3 in total shots with goals from Brandie Harris and Linn Viklund in the second half.

“This was our first conference game, so we had to step it up,” Grimaldo said. “I felt like we owned them. If we keep playing like this, we’ll keep on winning. We had good communication out there.”

Harris shot a 35-yard cruise missile over the goalie’s head for her eighth of the season. Vaquero defender Linn Viklund headed in the final goal off of a corner in the 72nd minute.

“I thought we knocked the ball around really well and the goals were scored.” Coach John Sisterson said. “The girls went after it and got their result.”

The Vaqueros continue their title defense at home 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
