City College men’s basketball player gets all-team nod.

City College basketball player Richard Somdah was named to the All-Western State Conference North men’s team.

The 6’3″ forward who averaged 16.4 points per game learned about the honor only a few days after their season was cut short.

Somdah also averaged 6.2 rebounds in the 14-team conference. The rebounding mark was a team high.

“I don’t want to be unappreciative,” said Somdah. “I just wish, as a team, we’d done better.”

Somdah scored 20, 20, 21 and 22 points in his last four games. His career-high was a 27-point effort he tallied earlier in the season on Dec. 29. The personal record came in a 79-78 win over Rio Hondo College. He was the ninth-leading scorer in the conference.

Somdah aims on attending Westmont College, Whittier College or Sonoma State University. He plans on continuing to play basketball wherever he goes.

Chris Vines also received an honorable mention to the same all-conference men’s team.

The San Marcos High standout averaged 12.9 points and pulled down 5.6 rebounds for the Vaqueros (7-20, 3-9). He also put up a City College (67.6 points per game) season high 32 points in an 86-77 win against Victor Valley the second game of the season.

Vines was third in the conference in steals averaging 2.1 per game.
