Carly Smith scored the lone run for City College with a pinch-hit, solo homerun as Long Beach City College edged the Vaqueros 3-1 on Tuesday in Long Beach.
City College is now 1-1 overall on the season.
The game showcased some dominant pitching. Kailey Snyder gave up six hits and had nine strikeouts for the second straight game. Angela Arias only gave up five hits with six strikeouts for the Vikings, who improved to 5-1-1.
The Vaqs will play at 2:30 p.m Thursday against Bakerfield. The game will mark the first time the softball team has played a regular season game on the newly refurbished field.
The Measure V funded project was done over the winter break. The team has only practiced on the remodeled diamond.
