The finish wasn’t kind to City College on Friday at par-72 California Country Club where the Vaqueros placed eighth out of 10 schools in the Rio Hondo Invitational at Whittier.
Long Beach won the men’s golf tourney with 369 strokes, beating College of the Desert by six and Glendale by nine. The Vaqueros’ total was 410.

Matt Boberg led City College’s all-freshman squad with a 76. Kyle Rieb and Dodge Ward posted 82’s, while Reese Hutchins shot 83. Peter Prescott of Long Beach was the medalist at six-under 66.
City College will play at 11 a.m. today in the Ventura Invitational at Monarch Dunes in Nipomo.
