On Sunday, the defending 2008 State Champion women’s golf team opened their season with a two stroke lead in the first round of the South Coast Classic.
City College’s Asaka Sim, last year’s individual state champion, led the way for the Vaqueros shooting a 76 on Buenavista’s par-70 course in Ventura.
Jenna Boyle was a stroke behind Sim at 77, and Nicole Denny and Sim’s sister, Sumika Sim, each shot an 84.
Bakersfield will trail the Vaqueros on Monday morning by two strokes as they head into the final round at Olivas Links in Ventura.
