Sandwich theft and arrest warrant sets off spring semester

Jan. 20 – 6:00 p.m.

A female student reported to Campus Security that her ex-boyfriend had assaulted her off-campus. The male in question is not a City College student so security will be on the lookout should the male decide to come on-campus. The female also filed a report with the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Jan. 21 – 10:00 p.m.

Security received a report concerning the vandalism of a Marine Diving Technology’s vehicle. The suspect had jumped a fence in order to gain access to the vehicle. Security reported that the windshield wipers of the flatbed truck were disfigured and twisted in such a way that rendered them useless. The identity of the suspect is still unknown.

Jan. 21- 9:15 p.m.

Campus Security was called to an instructor’s office in the Physical Science building where a window was shattered for the purpose of stealing a Mac desktop computer. The suspect reached in through the broken window allowing them to cut the security cable on the computer and escape without confrontation. Nothing else in the office was stolen.

Jan. 27- 6:15 p.m.

A male student was reported to Campus Security for driving recklessly through the school parking lot. According to security the male sped out of lot 2-B causing the front bumper to scrape against the ground alerting nearby patrol of his reckless driving. The suspect then entered into lot 2-C almost striking a security officer in the process. The male claimed he was late for class or he would not have been driving so dangerously. He has been referred to the dean of student discipline.

Jan. 27- 6:00 p.m.

A female student contacted Campus Security after a male student started sending her incessant text messages. The male had reportedly approached the female around the bridge on East Campus and asked for her phone number, which she gave him. The messages were not sexual or violent, though they were consistent and bothersome. The female has blocked the male from all contact.

Jan. 28 – 3:45 p.m.

The East Campus Cafeteria contacted security after two males were seen discretely shoving a sandwich in each of their back pockets. The two men left the cafeteria through the front entrance and were followed by cafeteria employees. One perpetrator fled the scene upon confrontation while the other stayed claiming he had taken food because he forgot his wallet and was hungry. The captured student gave little information concerning the other thief and that he only knew him by nickname. The student has been temporarily banned from the cafeteria and was referred to the dean of student discipline.

Jan. 28 – 4:00 p.m.

Custodial staff reported to Campus Security that a box of roughly 20 whiteboard markers was stolen from an unattended cart. The custodian was making several trips to and from the cart while he was picking up supplies from a classroom. The culprit left with the markers while the custodian’s back was turned away from the cart. The identity of the thief is still unknown.

Jan. 28 – 9:00 a.m.

The Santa Barbara Police Department contacted Campus Security regarding an arrest warrant on a student for a non-violent crime. Security informed SBPD of where they thought the student would be and police arrested the man outside the IDC building without incident.
