Erika Schaeffer, a former cross-country and track star at City College, has been named to the scholar-athlete honor roll for her accomplishments here.
Schaeffer is one of 11 women athletes from different sports to make the honor roll.
The award is issued by the California Community College Athletic Association and recognizes students that show outstanding leadership both as athletes and students.
Schaeffer had a 3.96 cumulative GPA at City College and holds the second fastest time in school history in the steeplechase (11:15.53).
She was the Southern California steeplechase champion in 2011 and finished 13th in the 2010 Cross Country State Championships.
“She was phenomenal, great athlete, great student, really hard worker,” said Scott Fickerson, cross-country and track and field head coach. “She’s everything a coach would want.”
Schaeffer was redshirted during the cross-country season last Fall and is now competing for the Cal Poly SLO Mustangs, where she’s majoring in veterinary sciences.
Schaeffer will be honored at the Celebration of Scholar Athletes Luncheon on April 4 in San Mateo.
