Vaqueros fall short to Pierce College

City College lost a close game against Pierce College 65-63 in Woodland Hills on Saturday night.

Richard Somdah led the Vaqueros, who now fall to 7-16 and 3-5 in conference play, with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Chris Vines notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Vaqs freshman Jared Green tied the score at 63 with a basket at the 1:11 mark. Pierce then went ahead 64-63 on a field goal with 25 seconds left to play.

The Vaqs’ missed the ensuing shot and fouled Pierce with 3.8 seconds left on the clock.

Pierce made the first free throw to make it a two-point game and the Vaqs rebounded after the second attempt missed.

City College tried to drive the length of the court, but failed to get a shot off in the end.

The Vaqs’ next game will be at 5 p.m. Saturday in Ventura.
