The City College women’s basketball team had its heart broken on a buzzer-beating half court heave by Monica Jackson in a 83-82 loss to L.A. Pierce in Woodland Hills.
Sophomore guard Imelda Bealer flirted with a quadruple-double in the game with nine points, nine rebounds, eight assists, seven blocked shots and five steals.
Freshman Mercedes Gonzalez tied her career high with 16 points and had a season-best 11 rebounds for the Vaqueros who drop to 17-9, 4-4 in the conference.
Lyndsay Bergus hit 3-of-6 from behind the three-point line and added 13 points while Janelle Wong had 12 of her own.
The Vaqs erased a 12-point deficit with about three minutes left in the game. Then Bergus hit back-to-back three-pointers with 45 seconds left to play to take a 82-80 lead.
Nanice Kollee was fouled with five seconds left but missed both free throws, which led to Jackson’s game-winning shot.
City College will play at at 7 p.m Wednesday in Ventura.
