Freshman Zoe Davis broke the City College shot put record for a second week straight.
Davis threw the 8.8-pound shot put 12.05 meters (39 feet, 6.5 inches) on Feb. 17 at the San Luis Obispo Town Classic meet at Cuesta College.
The mark broke Sandra Tyson’s school record from 1985 by 6.5 inches.
“I don’t think you can really expect anything like that,” Davis said. “I was just hoping to get the best distance that I could.”
Davis followed up her success a week later when she improved her record with a 12.14-meter throw (39 feet, 9.75 inches), to win by more than 8.5 inches at the Western State Conference meet in Glendora.
Scott Fickerson, head coach of the track team, said he is not surprised by Davis’ accomplishments.
“It’s one of those things where it’s impressive to break a 27-year-old record, but she’s going to throw a lot farther,” Fickerson said.
Davis will look to make it a three-peat when the Vaqueros travel to Ventura for the No. 1 Western State Conference meet at noon on Friday.
