Equalizing goal scored late to end final game of the men’s soccer team season in a draw.

The City College men’s soccer team tied Hancock College with a late goal in their final regular season game on Friday.

The Vaqueros had an opportunity to clinch a third consecutive conference title.

After falling behind 1-0 early in the game. City College managed to create plenty of opportunities but could not capitalize.

Coach John Sisterson said the team should have won the game, based on the numerous chances.

City College controlled possession and pace most of the game, forcing Hancock to rely on their defense.

“We just couldn’t score,” said winger Jean Carlo Guzman. “I had a few chances in the first half that I should have done better.”

The second half started as the first half ended, with Vaqueros taking command of the game, while Hancock concentrated on counterattacks.

It wasn’t until the 88th minute when freshmen Nikolai Littleton put the Vaqueros on the board.

In the dying minutes of the game, City College tried pull out a miracle victory when Chijioke Aronatu attempted a cheeky bicycle kick that was inches off target.

City College finished third in the conference and seventh overall, tying for the best defensive record in the state. Oxnard was crowned the champions of the Western State Conference.

Despite the draw against Hancock, the men’s soccer team still managed to secure a spot in the playoffs and home field advantage.

The opponent is still undecided, but The Vaqs’ playoff debut will be on Saturday Nov. 20.
