Incident Log: Disruptive students, hit and run, and Bookstore theft

Jan. 27, 9:15 a.m.

A student got angry and loud, and said he is going to sue the college for denying his education when an administrator at the office of Student Life was unable to meet with the student upon request. The college staff called security and the disruptive student left.

Jan.  30, 11:35 a.m.

A male out-of-state student got angry and loud at the office of Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSPS) stating he wasn’t receiving certain funding. The student was using foul language and behaving disruptive. Security was called. The Santa Barbara Police Department was notified and the student then left after refusing to leave.

Jan. 30, 12:35 p.m.

The bookstore manager verbally detained a male student after the student attempted to steal an English course literature book. When security arrived, the student said  that he walked out from the bookstore forgetting that he had the textbook with him. He was allowed to pay for the book and then referred for student discipline.

Jan. 30, 3:30 p.m.

Security received a report of a hit-and-run on the second level of the parking structure of lot 5-2.  Security said a vehicle backed or ran into a parked vehicle and caused damage to the victim’s car’s rear bumper.

Jan. 30, 4:15 p.m.

A male student tried to spit on another student when passing each other on the bridge between West and East Campus. The confrontation was a continuation from an earlier off-campus incident about housing.

Jan. 31, 10:25 a.m.

Three individuals were caught smoking a joint at the Winslow Maxwell Overlook on East Campus. The security took their names and referred them for student discipline.

Jan. 31, 11 a.m.

A female student was behaving inappropriately, using foul language towards the staff in the office of Disabled Student Programs and Services. The student reportedly got upset when wanting to see a counselor but was denied and explained to the procedure necessary to meet with a counselor. She was informed about her inappropriate behavior and left the office continuing to curse.

Jan 31, 2:50 p.m.

A student reported a theft from the hotel, restaurant and culinary department’s locker room. The women claimed her UGG-style boots and a dollar bill from her wallet to be missing. Everything else she had in her locker was left.

Jan. 31, 4:20 p.m.

A male student returned to his locker in the PE building and found that his MacBook Pro was missing. The locker was locked and the backpack in which he claimed to have had the laptop was left. Police were called to the scene to file a report.

Jan. 31, 8 a.m.

Security received a report regarding an alarming e-mail sent from a male student that was outraged over a class being dropped because of low enrollment. The e-mail that was sent to administrators presented the student’s very difficult challenge to find another class that would give him the requested units that he needs. No threats were made according to security.

Feb. 1, 11:25 a.m.

Two male students were caught smoking marijuana at the West Campus bluffs. Security confiscated the pipe, took their names, and referred them for student discipline.

Feb. 1, 12:15 p.m.

A female student felt faint when working out in the Life Fitness Center. She was treated by a nurse and released.

Feb. 1, 9 p.m.

A classmate took an automotive student to the Cottage Hospital emergency room after getting injured in class. The student got a deep, one-inch long cut in his right index finger after grabbing a particular car part with a sharp edge.

Feb. 2, 1:50 p.m.

A male student was caught by security with possession of marijuana and a drug container at the Winslow Maxwell Overlook on East Campus. His name was taken and referred for student discipline.
