Inappropriate flyers, unsettling texts highlight this week’s crimes

Oct. 2 – 10:50 a.m.

A student at the Cosmetology Academy called campus security when she suspected another student was drinking in the restroom. When security reached the academy they made contact with the student who reported the incident, the teacher of the class, and also the reported suspect. The suspect denied drinking and they did not appear to be under the influence.

Oct. 3 – 6:30 p.m.

Security received a report from a female student after she received a message from a former male City College student that upset her. They had met and exchanged phone numbers the first week of school. They had not messaged each other until she received a message from him saying “I see that you have food and I will wait ‘till you’re done.” This message left the female student unsettled because she had been eating when she received the message. She has since blocked his number.

Oct. 4 – 12:15 p.m.

Instructors from City College reported flyers they saw posted in the elevator, lecture room, and the men’s restroom of the Earth and Biological Science Building to Security. The flyers stated unkind things about a female instructor on campus. It also included a link to a website where her exams, test information and classwork answers had been posted. School officials contacted the website hosting company and had the website shut down. The instructor whom the flyer was about said she feels threatened and harassed. Security is conducting an ongoing investigation and a police report has also been filed.

Oct. 8 – 2:45 p.m.

A math instructor called Security when a student appeared to be cheating on an exam. He seemed to be on his phone communicating with another person to get answers. The student has been referred to the dean.
