CD Review – “Rebirth” by Lil’ Wayne

Lil’ Wayne, a Grammy-award-winning rap artist, released his latest creation, Rebirth, on Feb. 2. The new CD combines Wayne’s rapping with heavy guitar chords and drum solos in a self-proclaimed, “rock album.” Despite several appealing releases in the past, Lil’ Wayne‘s newest project is unimpressive to say the least.

The album is undoubtedly one of the worst records of the highly acclaimed rapper’s career.

Wayne’s humorless rhymes in Rebirth not only contradict his own developed style but also seem to lack any kind of creative strategy at all. While the rock band playing in the background is unique, any level of innovative credibility is drowned out by a relentless use of auto-tune applied to Lil’ Wayne’s lyrics.

Songs like “American Star” demonstrate the overuse of auto-tune, which can be appealing, but in small doses. The album does contain one decent track in “Drop the World,” which features Eminem, but for the most part I wasn’t inclined to listen any song to twice. A hardcore fan might be able to appreciate Rebirth, however in the time being, Wayne should abandon his rock star aspirations.
