Opinion: NFL season brings forth transformation

Opinion%3A+NFL+season+brings+forth+transformation
James Crosby

The NFL is already mid-way through the season? Just four months ago it was looking like the season might be canceled; now it’s looking like one of the most exciting season in years.

The business of the NFL is entertainment and it is sure providing it. If this NFL season were a woman she would be an elegant dressing, dirty mouthed seductress that shows enough skin to get you excited but covers up enough to make your imagination run wild.

Can anyone really believe the Colts really 0-9 and looking like they might win the lottery for Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck? But what happens to 35-year-old future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning?

There are already rumors he will be traded. Really? The Colts just signed Peyton to a $90 million dollar extension and now you want to trade him? To who? Who is going to want a $90 million dollar injured quarterback with an uncertain future?

Story continues below advertisement

It honestly makes me sick that the Colts are willing to trade him when he has led their team to 11 straight playoff berths and a Super Bowl win. Poor form Colts! You made the bed now sleep in it.

Peyton made everyone’s job easier. Indisputably the easiest job in the NFL is being Peyton Manning’s O-coordinator.  Peyton was a player, coach, and arguably the most incredibly gifted football mind ever, the Einstein of Football.

Switching subjects so I don’t pop a blood vessel in my brain, what are they feeding those Gold Miners in San Francisco? The 49ers are 7-1 and would be undefeated if not for an overtime loss to the Cowboys after an uncharacteristic late surge from an injured Tony Romo.

I have to be honest; Jim Harbaugh is a total G. He’s leading the previously abysmal Niners on a gold rush for the ages. His defense hasn’t allowed a single rushing touchdown on the season and has sent six of the eight opposing feature backs to the training room.

That’s the kind of smash mouth football I love watching! Even better he faces his brother John and a formidable Ravens team on Thanksgiving. Can anyone say game of the year?

Even though this season is exciting; the NFL, in my opinion, has work to do on its rules. Instead of being decided by players, games outcomes are subject to some outrageous call by a referee who, in his opinion, believes the hit to be too hard.

What happened to the days when players came off the field like they were just in the ancient roman coliseum in gladiatorial combat? Sure, player safety is important, but if a defender lights up a wide receiver over the middle, that’s part of the game. If I hear Chris Collinsworth say anything about that subject I might go mad. You know why if you listen to his sorry excuse of football broadcasting every Sunday.

Big hits are exciting and a part of football, the NFL finning and penalizing defensive players for big hits is taking away from the integrity of the game. What used to be a big hit and momentum changer for a defense is now a hit financially and momentum killer.
