Men’s golf team scuffling with hopes to rebound

The Santa Barbara City College Men's golf team has struggled of late, finishing in eighth place on Thursday at the Ventura Invitational. Over the past week the Vaqueros have fallen from second place to fourth in the Western State Conference, after disappointing outings in the last two tournaments.

The City College men's golf team is in the midst of a promising season fresh off its first tournament win at the Oakmont Country Club. Many people around the program feel the Vaqueros have the talent and poise to compete for the Western State Conference title and make a run at the state title.

Women’s golf putts to second place

The women's golf team ended its season with an overall record of 35-5, placing second in the state behind College of the Canyons. The Lady Vaqueros were defending state champions, but they lost by 13 strokes in this year's two-day state championships. The team will lose two sophomores after this year, one of which is Natalie Todd, the defending state champion in individuals and this year's Western State Conference individual League Champion.

Golfer Kierstan Capito has been named this year's City College Female Student Athlete of the Year. "This is such an honor and I was very excited when I found out that I was going to be named Athlete of the Year," said Capito, who did not start golfing until her freshman year of high school.

The women's golf team took fourth place on Monday Nov. 7 at the Southern California Regional Playoffs, finishing out its season early. "We didn't make it to state," said player Victoria Alimonda of the team's failure to win at the regional playoffs and advance to the Southern California State Championship.

Women's golf at Santa Barbara City College may be the most successful team you've never seen. The six-player team is in first place in the Women's Southern Conference Championship, making them poised to repeat last year's win in that league and another chance at winning the Southern California State Championship.

City College golfers Brandon Harkins and Brandon Gama may be each other's biggest rivals on the course, but that doesn't stop the two friends from constantly pushing each other to get better. With equal determination and passion, they lead this years men's team and share the goal that just might be any young golfer's dream: going pro.

ty College women's golf team has taken first in every tournament it has entered. Oct. 2 was more of the same as the Lady Vaqueros took first at the Diamond Bar Golf Course. College of the Canyons, who give City College its toughest competiton, took second place.

The Lady Vaqs won their fourth league match on the Sept 18th, at Alan Hancock, in Santa Maria. The team swung against 6 other teams, beating the second placed, Canyons by 14 strokes. The College of the Canyons is the team that posed a threat to the City College win streak, but high team confidence and low scores in each of the Lady Vaqs' match's led to victory.

City College's women's golf team is rolling through another season, dominating all the competition and taking first in every outing this season, including the Santa Barbara and Orange Coast tournaments. The Lady Vaqueros look to take their third league championship in a row.

It's a sunny September walking up the steps by La Playa stadium towards campus. At the top of the stairs there's a small rectangle building on the left. It's not much of an architectural wonder, but inside it's bustling with energy. A certain catalyst for this energy is City College's new Dean of Physical Recreation and Director of Athletics, Mike Warren.

Sports Update – Men’s Golf finishes 2nd in State, Men’s Track 12th

Since the final publication of The Channels in the spring, both the men's golf and track finished their seasons at state competitions. City College sent four track athletes to the California State Championships in Bakersfield, earning a second-place finish, two fourth-place finishes and one seventh.
