The Santa Barbara City College Men’s golf team has struggled of late, finishing in eighth place on Thursday at the Ventura Invitational.
Over the past week the Vaqueros have fallen from second place to fourth in the Western State Conference, after disappointing outings in the last two tournaments.
“Out of eight tournaments, five different teams have won,” head coach Chuck Melendez said. “That says a lot about the strength of our conference.”
The Vaqueros are led by Jesse Ferris and Alex McElhaney, who are currently ranked first and eleventh in the Western State Conference respectively.
“We are really looking forward to the conference tournament,” said McElhaney. “It gives us a chance to go to the state tournament”
The Vaqueros must finish in the top two at the WSC tournament in order to earn an opportunity to compete at the state tournament.
