Not too long ago it was made official that I was in the friend zone. The friend zone is a place where a girl only sees a guy as a friend, and only a friend.
I met this girl my senior year of high school in my English class. She hardly spoke to anyone for more than ten minutes. So I came to the rescue when I saw her by herself in class and I greeted her with a simple, “Well, why are you all by yourself?”
Once I had her chuckling I knew that she and I were bound to be friends. Little did I know that feelings were on the horizon. Although it seemed like a promising future, she was hard to read like every other girl I’ve encountered. Ladies please throw guys a bone and help us decipher the signs you give us!
As time passed, I developed deeper feelings for her because she embodies the down to earth and drama free girl I have dreamed of being with.
Now, two years removed from high school, she revealed that she sees me only as a friend. For the record, I knew I was in the friend zone for about a year. I refused to accept it because I really liked her. Talk about a hopeful-romantic.
I saw her go through two break-ups where she was put through a lot of crap. So I naturally knew that not only would I better fit and provide her with a stable relationship. But also because I knew I would treat her as though she was the only girl in the world.
Obviously, it hurt not to win the sweepstakes of being by her side.
For some guys, being placed in the friend’s zone fills them with anguish and anger, and others feel sadness and utter disappointment. It obviously hurts when someone proves that you are not what you were hoping you’d be.
In my twenty years I have had many crushes, ten to be specific. Six of them developed into relationships where the others I was sadly rejected.
It’s human nature to be upset the times I was denied a chance at a relationship. But c’mon, I’m not a kid so I had no choice to accept the girls’ decisions. Doing so, I also proved my respect for them as human beings.
Being resentful toward someone whom you were attracted too and didn’t reciprocate similar feelings is not a legitimate reason for the anger.
Instead of being immature about rejections, handle them like a man. You may ask how?
Think of it this way, if your crush becomes your girlfriend, the risk of breaking up with her is on the table and cutting ties for good can be a possible result.
Although you stand with your dreams shattered on the floor, a friend to have is better than no friend at all. If you’re able to cope with the situation and rise above it, you don’t lose a friend. Instead, you end up with a female friend that can help you find the right girl and give you perspective from the ever-baffling female mind.
The best thing about your ex-crush being a good friend is that she’ll always have your best interest at heart when it comes to potential women in your life.
Ultimately guys, as much of a control freak you may be, the emotions of a girl are things we cannot fathom and should NEVER attempt to or control.
