Free show of off-Broadway classic “Parallel Lives”

Former theater arts associate director Rick Mokler resurrects the off-Broadway classic “Parallel Lives” with a free show on a first-come, first-serve basis at the Interim Theatre on Dec. 1 and 2 at 7 p.m.

The play was written by Mo Gaffney and Kathy Najimy the creative duo behind the “Kathy and Mo Show” in the 1980s, a revue comprised of stand-up “Saturday Night Live” type performances.

The play focuses on two Supreme Beings who set the rules that control the lives of men and women. Some skits, like “Kris and Jeff,” that handles the pick-up bar scene, and “Annette and Gina,” which tackles religion, are outright hilarious and will be performed by City College students.

The off- Broadway two-woman troupe was the first to star in “Parallel Lives.” The play peaked when it aired on HBO in its very own 60 minute special in 1991.
