City College has made recent changes for carpooling parking spots on campus.
The school has offered a carpool service for years now according to Erik Fricke, head of campus security.
Due to enrollment numbers rising following the COVID-19 pandemic, City College has changed the structure of its parking lots.
“We have an agreement with the Coastal Commission where we are required to have 20% of our parking carpool,” Fricke said. “We have a total of 1,941 student parking spots and 357 carpool stalls which puts us right around 18%.”
On West Campus, lots 4-A, 4-B, and 4-C will be reserved for carpooling permits only. This is in addition to the carpool spots that are on the top level of the parking structure (5-4) that have been in place.
On Jan. 18, 22, 23, and 30, Fricke sent pipeline emails in regards to these new regulations taking place, with the goal of informing students of the carpooling requirements and alternative places to park.
During the first week of the spring semester, the campus security did not give out citations to people without a carpool pass. Instead, security placed printed notes on all vehicles parked both in East and West lots informing students that they will need a carpool pass to park in those specific lots.
In order to receive a carpooling parking permit you must already have a permit and have two or more people in the car, then pick up a daily pass at a kiosk, either on West or East campus. For more information in regards to parking lots, more details can be found on City College’s website.
