CD Review – ‘Plastic Beach’ by the Gorillaz

The Gorillaz‘ musical unpredictability continues to surprise and satisfy listeners in their third album “Plastic Beach,” released March 3.

The songs are composed of the same type of nonsensical lyrics and cacophonous instrumentals that Beck implements in his music.

Their music combines forms of dub, hip-hop, and alternative rock. Not straying far from their two previous albums “Gorillaz” and “Demon Days,” the foursome adds their unique element of rap throughout some of their songs like “Superfast Jellyfish” and “Welcome to the World of the Plastic Beach.”

The elusive image that is shown through their avatars translates into their music as well. The droned British vocals of lead singer and pianist 2D give the melodic vibe of the songs a mellow mood.
