CD Review – Kyle Hollingsworth

Funky, soulful and uplifting are only a few words that describe Kyle Hollingsworth‘s new solo release, “Then There’s Now,” released Sept. 15. It’s an album that sets him apart from The String Cheese Incident, the band he is famous for playing keyboard with. It’s a little heavier sound, leaning more toward a funky ’70s rock sound than String Cheese’s bluegrass feel.

Kyle’s keyboard dominates the album, which gives it a gospel feel that makes listening feel like a religious experience.

This is a funky album that is hard not to dance to, and it feels good to hear a positive message in music. The song “All Inside” is a groove with a message to express our creative and emotional ideas.

Although most of the tunes are fast and upbeat, there are a couple of ballads, like the tune “Don’t Wake Me,” that are slow but not without soul.

This album is not for people who have bad taste and hate to get down to funky bass lines. But for everyone else, this is a great one.
