CD Review- Kid Cudi

Cleveland hip-hop artist released his first studio album, “Man on the Moon: The End of Day,” after gaining notoriety through his mix tapes and unique style.

The 25-year-old collaborated with Kanye West, and the duo created a distinctive sound with emotional lyrics that are transforming hip-hop. Cudi expresses his emotional ups and downs rather than rapping about violence or money, and the use of melody with electronic sound beds.

In the song “Poker Face,” producer Kanye West remixes the Lady Gaga hit, and lets Cudi use his lyrical talent to put a new twist on the song.

The song, “Pursuit of Happiness (Nightmare),” featuring MGMT, pretty much sums up the entire album – using an electronic synthesizing sound along with expressive lyrics to give it an edgy and new vibe, something we’ve never heard before.

The one downside to the album is Cudi’s vocals. Although a very skilled lyricist, his raspy voice sounds can get irritating and over the top in some of the tracks.

If you want to hear something you’ve never heard before, it’s “Man on the Moon: The End of Day.”
