Santa Barbara (10-6-1, 12-6-1) will be playing their final game, facing Ventura College (10-0-1, 12-3-2) in Ventura on Monday, Nov. 8 at 3 p.m. Ventura is the number one team in the division, and they beat City College 1-0 at La Playa Stadium in their previous meeting.
“We’ve had a good season and we needed a good result,” said Santa Barbara coach Brent Gonsalves. “We needed to get three points to maintain second place.”
On Friday, Santa Barbara put three shots on goal in the first half, but the ball hit the top goalpost on each try.
Going into the second half, the energy level was higher and the Vaqueros quickly took complete control of the game, dominating in terms of possession time.
In the tenth minute, Christina Marquez hit the ball straight down the center from the 15 yard line and scored the first goal. Twenty minutes later, striker Mackenzie Mee-Lee scored the second and final goal of the game. The game was called with under two minutes remaining.
