Robbery and assault on campus

A City College student was punched in the face, knocked to the ground and robbed of his backpack near the Earth and Biological Sciences Building on Sept. 8 at about 7:45 p.m. The offender has not yet been identified.

After the assault, the offender left in a blue Chevrolet Suburban driven by a second suspect.

A witness to the assault immediately contacted campus security through the campus security line. Security officers Sidoti and Brown were able to follow the Suburban and record the license plate number, according to the incident report.

The officers contacted the Santa Barbara Police Department of the incident while following the Suburban through west side Santa Barbara, but the security officers ended their pursuit when the Suburban reached higher speeds.

Officer Ruiz of the Santa Barbara Police Department informed The Channels on Friday that they were beginning the investigation, and that two people had been spoken to. He could not offer any more information at that time.

Campus Security Director Eric Fricke said that he believes the incident is a random crime, because the victim did not know his attacker. Although the crime is now in the hands of Santa Barbara Police Department, campus security will view the attacker as a threat to students on campus until he is caught.
