Dance teacher Jennifer Seigle leaves City College

Dance enthusiast Jennifer Seigle is leaving City College after two years working as a full-time faculty instructor in the physical education department.

The Dance program is in for a transition, as Seigle revitalized the program upon her arrival in the Fall of 2007, resurrecting the dance club and working tirelessly to provide an Associate’s degree in dance.

“I think we have had a really excellent two years,” Seigle said. “I’m happy with what we have accomplished.”

Before Seigle’s arrival, City College dancers had not performed in public since 2002. She got them back on stage, despite the fact that campus theaters were often completely booked, by securing off-campus locations for performances.

Financial issues have inhibited the dance program in reaching its full potential, but Seigle does not attribute this to her departure.

“The whole college is having financial issues right now,” Seigle said. “We certainly have the emotional support of the administration; there just aren’t enough finances to go around.”

The Spring Dance Concert, which took place Thursday and Friday night, was the last formal show for Seigle at City College, but she is working with students to produce two student choreographed shows in May.

The Choreographer Dance Showcase will take place at 8 p.m. on May 13 at in the Physical Education Building – Room 113, and the Informal Dance Showcase will be at 8 p.m. on May 15 at the same location.
