City College is now a certified Hispanic Serving Institution, making it eligible for a number of grants.
City College was able to obtain this status by having at least a 25% Hispanic full time enrollment.
Funds are awarded to help Hispanic Serving Institutions expand their services to serve Hispanic and low-income students.
According to the website of the Department of Education, the program “helps eligible institutions of higher education enhance and expand their capacity to serve Hispanic and low-income students by providing funds to improve and strengthen the academic quality, institutional stability, management, and fiscal capabilities of eligible institutions.”
Funds from the grant may be used for many things, including academic tutoring, curriculum development, renovation of facilities, and counseling programs.
