CD Review- Yeah Yeah Yeahs “It’s a Blitz”

The alternative rock trio from New York has come a long way since its debut album in 2001. So far, lead singer Karen Orzolek‘s legendary voice is only recognizable on the Yeah Yeah Yeahs‘ third album “It’s a Blitz!”

Compared to their original laid-back attitude, their new album has songs with more touch-ups than Michael Jackson’s face.

The album, released March 31, opens with “Zero,” an explosion of dance-friendly sounds with few lyrics.

The band has never touched the genre of popular music more than with “Heads Will Roll.”

“Off with your head/dance until you’re dead/heads will roll/on the floor,” Orzolek sings, sounding like Shirley Manson from the band Garbage.

“Soft Shock” and “Dull Life” are the songs that bring the group closest to finding its own sound, though Orzolek’s voice drowns in the dreary music.

But if you can live with a Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ album without the memorable Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ sound, you’ll actually get a pretty decent album.
