The Shins on the left, Joni Mitchell on the right. Put your hands together – you’ve got Mirah, who released her fourth studio album, “(A)spera,” March 10 on K Records.
A singer and songwriter in her 30s, Mirah consistently concentrates old folk poetry into her song lyrics – and she does it once again in the line-up of her barely week-old album. With her slow-tempo, soft sound and delicate feminine voice, Mirah’s songs appeal to the tender side of the heart.
On the Catchy-Tune-O-Meter, “The World is Falling” and “Country of the Future” were the highest ranked on the album.
But beware – as this album is an excellent “bubble-bath mood” soundtrack, it may cause serious iPod-ADD. Each song from (A)spera carries mainly the same pulse unless serious attention is payed – so if you get bored easily, steer clear.
The subtleties are what make Mirah’s music fly, but they could also be her downfall.
