Britney Spears is back to her former self on her newest album, “Circus.” Released on November 28, Spears’ “comeback “album debuted at No.1 on The Billboard 200 Chart. Appealing to her party-going, teenaged fan base, “Circus” features a predictable blend of edgy dance beats, sexual lyrics, and bubblegum pop vocals.
The album’s hit singles “Womanizer” and “Circus” feature dramatic synthesizers and catchy chorus tunes. The slick dance beats of “Mannequin” and “Kill the Lights” provide a solid dose of fun, sexy pop.
Aside from the surprisingly interesting “Unusual You,” the albums ballads are hollow and boring, and the vocals showcase Spears’ lack of range and clarity. While the other tracks are entertaining, the album lacks the refreshing and addictive energy of her previous albums.
Enjoyable but unoriginal, “Circus” falls one notch above mediocre and two notches short of great.
