Trustees delay vote for parking fee increase

The Board of Trustees deferred the vote on parking fee increases to wait for the Student Senate’s consent during yesterday’s regular meeting.

Superintendent-President Andreea Serban said that she wanted to hear what the senate had to say about the increase before they came to an official decision.

The vote, which was listed as an agenda item, came as a surprise to Student Trustee Sean Knotts. He expressed his gratitude toward the board, and their consideration for students.

“I blushed a little,” Knotts said.

The $30 fee would be raised by $5 if bought in person or $3.50 if purchased online.

Student senators believe the proposal will pass, as senators have received a positive response from students polled during the past few weeks.

In total, there are 2,466 stalls on campus, 1,890 of those stalls are available to students until 5 p.m. These figures do not include stalls at Pershing Park.

The Student Senate will vote on the parking fee hike in their meeting on March 6. Their decision will be carried on to the board of Trustees, who will vote on the increase in their next regular meeting on March 26.
