Raekwon, or “The Chef” as fellow Wu-Tang members call him, cooked up an album fans will surely relish. Although hip-hop ears are largely focused on Jay-Z’s new release, Raekwon’s long-awaited sequel to his ’90s classic is evidence he too deserves the spotlight.
The album features common hip-hop gun and drug themes that rival gangster movies, but also weighs in on serious topics and displays why Raekwon is considered one of hip-hop’s best lyricists. In “Cold Outside,” Raekwon and Wu-Tang mate Ghostface seek answers for drug addiction, gun slayings, and job loss among other obstacles impoverished neighborhoods face.
Also, songs featuring hip-hop heavyweights like Busta Rhymes, Jadakiss and Dr. Dre guarantee the album’s success. The album’s gritty stories of poverty, crime and gangster bravado will not disappoint.
