Review of Forest World’s ‘Fvtvre’

In mainstream America, catchy lyrics and melodies are what seemingly grab the attention of most music lovers.

But, the short EP by Forest World “Fvtvre” comprised solely from a Game Boy Advance and Nanoloop 2.3 caught my attention more than most multi-million dollar artists have.

The 7 minute, 13 track album was released in November 2009 by Forest World’s dynamic duo Sean Ivins and Samantha Dickens. Surrendering their electronic, vocally based duet, this album had no vocal elements.

The overall tone of the album is what I imagine Mario Bros. is like on acid. It starts off with a slow xylophone-sounding introduction, which picks up buoyantly and psychedelically with each track. Although every song is uniquely fashioned, it’s hard to recognize their beginnings and ends because of its natural flowing composition.

The album takes its most upbeat turn at song six, “Super Highway,” which sounds like a spin off of the super stars in Mario that increase your speed and make you temporarily indestructible.

Altogether, the album is an innovative, non-redundant masterpiece. It’s unique from any other style of music, and will spark warm, childhood memories for those who grew up in the 90’s playing classic video games.
