Brief: Student charged for possession in drug bust

The City College student arrested on campus Nov. 7 on suspicion of possessing methamphetamines was arraigned Nov. 14 in the Santa Barbara County Superior Court.

Emmanual Cruz, 25, of Oxnard, pled not guilty to one felony charge of possession for sale of a controlled substance.

On the day of his arrest, police got a tip that a drug deal was pending. When police evacuated the class Cruz was attending, they observed that he dropped something from his hand. When the students reentered the classroom, police asked the student who sat next to Cruz if the thumb-tip sized bag was his. The student said it wasn’t. Police had enough probable cause to place Cruz under arrest.

Cruz was scheduled to appear in a preliminary hearing on Nov. 24. As of the 8 a.m. Monday Channels deadline, the Santa Barbara Superior Court had no updates on Cruz’ hearing.
