People Under The Stairs cement themselves as one of the best underground rap groups in recent memory with its album “Fun DMC” released Sept. 30.
Combining thoughtful lyrics with old school beats, the album is a welcome distraction from the superficial ring tone melodies that characterizes hip-hop today.
The group is clearly influenced by NWA as their style almost mimics that of mainstream west coast rap of the early 90s.
The song “The Fun” offers the best verses in the album and the artists effortlessly deliver provoking lyrics that flow seamlessly.
Originality is the album’s weakness. Each song sounds somewhat similar and almost seems like it has been done before.
If you are into thoughtful underground rap with west coast flare then “Fun DMC” is the album for you.
