Hank Williams III’s newest solo album “Damn Right Rebel Proud,” proves that he is his grandfather’s heir to the country legacy, but he is not without his edgier side.
The album released Oct. 21 sticks to the Williams’ family style of nitty-gritty country music. He sings about pick-up trucks and beer, friends and The Grand Ole Oprey. But his lyrics are often explicit, and not all of the content is light hearted.
“I’m a Candidate for Suicide” is the confession of a severely depressed man. “Long Hauls and Close Calls” is fast paced, but also has metal screams and profanity over its fiddle solos.
“Me and My Friends,” is about raisin’ hell, livin’ fast, and dyin’ young, and those ideas really sum up the rest of the album. They’re both country and metal, and so is Hank Williams III.
