GZA/Genius‘ “Pro Tools” proves once again why even the solo projects of the Wu-Tang Clan remain unrivaled.
The album doesn’t disappoint with a style reminiscent from his earlier classics, providing the Wu-Tang flavor that is hard to compare.
GZA’s simplistic, yet immaculate and heavy hitting beats are refreshing at a time when mainstream rap is defined by an obnoxiously overproduced sound.
“Short Race (ft. Rock Marcy)” captures GZA’s unrelenting flow at its best.
While the lyrics don’t resonate quite as much as his earlier albums, he sustains his lyrical prowess in “Paper Plate,” rapping, “Who shot ya? You don’t have enough on your roster. You move like a fed, but you talk like a mobster.”
Masta Killa puts it best in the song “Pencil (ft. Masta Killa and RZA),” with his rhyme, “Could he be the one predicted, presidential sent in. … Asiatic Arctic flow is so frigid.”
GZA’s relentless rhymes and dedicated old-school style prove he is as unstoppable as ever.
