Brief-Nursing student to be awarded in New York City

Pacific Regional Award winner Karolyn Hanna, from the City College Nursing Department, has recently received a $750 scholarship from the Mended Hearts Organization, to assist her with traveling expenses to New York City.

When the Santa Barbara Mended Hearts chairman learned of Dr. Hanna’s struggle with covering her traveling costs, he brought her situation to the attention of the organization, which voted to award her the scholarship. Bob Wilke, President of the Mended Hearts for the past eight years said the committee felt it was a worthy cause.

Hanna plans to fly to New York City to attend the presentation ceremonies and accept her award from the Association of Community Colleges Trustees.

The Mended Hearts Organization is a national non-profit whose mission is to “inspire hope in heart disease patients and their families.” Affiliated with the American Heart Association, the organization’s members comfort patients while going through surgery.
