Assemblyman Pedro Nava spoke to a small group of students and faculty at the East Campus’s Friendship Plaza on Tuesday in support of Proposition 92 .
“It’s important because it establishes stability,” said Nava, who represents Santa Barbara and Ventura counties in the state assembly.”Families need this assistance in fees and stable funding.”
Proposition 92, which will appear on the Feb. 5 statewide ballot, would lower per-unit fees to $15 and give City College an extra $5.2 million next year. It will also set community college funding apart from K-12 schools.
Christine Chavez, granddaughter of migrant laborer activist Cesar Chavez, was at the event in support of the initiative.
