Brief-Pedestrian killed on Cliff Drive

A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle Friday on Cliff Drive-just a few hundred feet from Santa Barbara City College’s East Campus entrance.

The victim, 23-year-old Anne Lindsey Napier, was struck by a 1986 Volvo station wagon around 10 p.m. Friday when she stepped off the curb and into a traffic lane, according to a Santa Barbara Police Department press release. Napier was then transported to Cottage Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Napier, along with a male companion, had left The Brewhouse at 229. W Montecito St. and was walking up Cliff Drive when she was hit. Police are investigating why Napier had walked into traffic in the first place.

Police suspected that the driver of the Volvo, 59-year-old Robert Ernest Anderson, had been drinking and arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence. Anderson had also been at The Brewhouse.

Police believe Napier has also been drinking before the collision. Her blood alcohol level will be determined, pending a toxicology report.

Napier was not a City College student as of the fall 2007 semester, said Allison Curtis, director of Admissions and Records.
