Brief- Vaqs win second straight home game

The Vaqueros snapped their mini two-game losing streak as they beat L.A. Southwest 43-20 Saturday at La Playa Stadium.

Nick Acciani threw for three touchdown passes, all to sophomore tight end Dudley LaPorte. The win was the Vaqs second straight at home and the margin of victory was the largest since they blew out Ventura 63-9 in 1996.

Santa Barbara’s defense played well against the Cougar’s, highlighted by Arnold Doxie’s 39-yard interception return for a score, Ferrari Welsh’s fourth interception of the season, Randon Nunez’s 2.5 sacks, and safety Jonathan Latimer’s 10 tackles.

The victory was important to the Vaqueros as they now head into their bye week only a game under the .500 mark. The men take the field next against archrival Ventura at 4 p.m. Saturday Oct. 13 at La Playa Stadium.
